about

Everyday Life is inspired by the term sonder, which is the revelation that each person in the world possesses a life that is as complex and meaningful as the one you yourself are now living. It tells of the seemingly random and mundane happenings of a small community and a select few of the inhabitants, while tying them all together into one big picture. It emphasizes the importance of ordinary things, and gives significance to seemingly meaningless, everyday events.

lyrics

The baker wakes up early in the morning
She turns on the stove to prepare for her day
The smell of new bread entices the mailman
Cycling by with his bag of mundane

He skipped breakfast again though it wasn't his intent
He'd rather sleep in and wake up and be fed
So that's what he did like every morning before
Six o'clock out of bed six o five out of bed

He waves to the milkman slowly plodding along
The white collared shirt with the tie tied on wrong
He sets down his crystal by the neighbor's front door
And he raises his hand to see the sun rise a bit more

He picks the glass after leaving a few
He looks down to see that he has not tied his shoe
And as he bends down the fat cat waddles by
It sniffs at the milk and it licks a drop dry

This is their everyday life, this is their everyday life
Where a note intertwines with another that's rife
With its own everyday life, its own everyday life
Where the lines become a picture and the colours breathe life into life

The neighbor peaks from behind a silken curtain
To see that the milkman is plodding away
She thinks of his face and his cute awkward tie
She wishes deep down she had the strength to say "hi"

Her eyes dart across the 7:40 street
To see two young schoolboys there scuffin their feet
She looked at the time, gasped and left the silken curtain
Lest she be late to teach of Nicholas and Rasputin

This is her everyday life, this is their everyday life
Where a note intertwines with another that's rife
With its own everyday life, its own everyday life
Where the lines become a picture and the colours breathe life into life

The schoolboys are groaning, they were up far too late
Concocting a world to which they could escape
But as the bell rings they rub open their eyes
And they greet all their friends with slaps and high-fives

As they enter the school the fat cat races by
For the young bright-eyed dog is running not far behind
The cacophony is a sign the town is awake
And their melody rises for another to take

An old man on a porch reminisces upon his life
From beginning to the end, every low and every high
He thinks upon his dear son far away over seas
Over seas he cannot cross, he weeps

This is his everyday life, this is their everyday life
Where a note intertwines with another that's rife
With its own everyday life, its own everyday life
Where the lines become a picture and the colours breathe life

This is his everyday life, this is their everyday song
Where without knowing word they somehow all sing along
And though miracles happen and their hard to refuse
It's those ordinary things that hurt the most to lose
